How buying a firearm online works

1. Find your item and your state. Set your ship-to state so we can show what's eligible where you live - California roster, state restrictions, and NFA items are checked before you buy, not after.
2. Pick the FFL that will receive it. At checkout you choose a licensed dealer near you (by ZIP). The firearm ships to that dealer, never to your home.
3. Pay. Your card is entered securely and your order is placed. For firearms, the sale is final once it ships to your dealer (see Returns).
4. We ship to your FFL. The seller ships the firearm to the dealer you chose; we re-verify the dealer is licensed before it goes out.
5. Pick it up in person. The dealer notifies you when it arrives. You go in, show a valid government photo ID, fill out the federal Form 4473, and the dealer runs the NICS background check.
6. Take it home - if you pass. If the check clears and your state's rules are met (waiting periods, etc.), the dealer transfers it to you. If you're denied, you don't take possession (see the FAQ below).

What is an FFL?

A Federal Firearms Licensee - a dealer licensed by the ATF to transfer firearms. Federal law requires firearms to ship to one for the transfer + background check.

Can it ship to my house?

No. Firearms ship to your chosen FFL. Most accessories and non-firearm items can ship directly; the product page tells you when an item requires an FFL.

What do I bring to pick it up?

A valid government-issued photo ID (and anything your state additionally requires). You'll complete Form 4473 and the dealer runs the NICS check on the spot.

What if I fail the background check?

You won't take possession of the firearm. Refund handling for a denied transfer depends on the dealer's policy - see Returns & cancellations.

Are there transfer fees?

Your receiving dealer typically charges a transfer fee, paid to them at pickup. That fee is set by the dealer and is separate from your order total here.
